Saga of Valor & Supreme Sacrifice

On 9 December 1971, the anti-submarine frigate INS Khukri was struck by torpedoes fired by Pakistani submarine PNS Hangor. Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla supervised the evacuation of his crew, handed his own life jacket to a sailor, and chose to go down with his vessel in the Arabian Sea, exemplifying the highest traditions of maritime valor.
