Saga of Valor & Supreme Sacrifice

On 20 October 1962 at Sirijap near Pangong Lake in Ladakh, Major Dhan Singh Thapa commanded an isolated outpost of 28 men. Facing intensive bombardment and massive enemy assaults, he moved from trench to trench rallying his men. When the position was overrun by tanks, he jumped out of his trench and engaged the enemy in hand-to-hand combat with his khukri, killing several attackers before being captured.
